protect teeth from soda

How to Keep Soda from Destroying Your Teeth

Did you know that if you drink soda, your smile could be in grave danger? Well, it’s true! In fact, soda can cause many dental issues, like enamel erosion and tooth decay. These two dental issues can result in major complications, including tooth sensitivity and tooth extraction. So, it’s best to prevent enamel erosion and tooth decay as much as possible. To help you keep soda from creating these dental issues, our Dental Center dental team encourages you to do the following things:

-Drink healthier drinks: Instead of soda, drink sugar-free drinks, milk, and 100 percent fruit juice throughout the day. Doing so will help you lessen your chances of ruining your smile.

-Rinse your mouth with water: It’s important that you rinse your smile with water after you drink soda. Doing so will rinse your teeth and will eliminate some of the sugars and acids that cling to your smile.

-Properly clean your smile: Oral hygiene is vital, especially if you are a soda drinker. Make sure you brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. We also recommend that you floss once a day as well as rinse your mouth with fluoride mouthwash daily.

-Use professional fluoride treatments: When you come into our office for a dental cleaning and exam, we will give you a fluoride treatment that will come in the form of a gel, varnish, or foam. It will generally be flavored to give you more of an enjoyable experience, and it will nourish and strengthen your smile while it is in your mouth.

If you need help doing one or more of these four things, please call Dental Center today at 801.224.6165 and talk to a member of our caring dental team. We also encourage you to schedule an appointment with our dentists, Dr. Douglas Ball, or Dr. Justin Broadbent, if you would like to know more about how to care for your smile in Orem, Utah.
