Tooth brushing errors to avoid

How to Avoid Tooth Brushing Errors

Did you know there are good and bad ways to care for your smile? Well, it’s true, and Drs. Ball and Broadbent strongly encourage you to use the good techniques so your teeth and gums can remain in tip-top shape. Unfortunately, the bad ways can harm your teeth and even alter the health of your gums. So, to help you avoid brushing errors, our dental team has some tips for you.

First, select the correct oral hygiene tools to keep your oral health in pristine condition. It’s best to use a toothbrush with soft bristles and toothpaste with fluoride. These characteristics can help you thoroughly scrub your teeth, care for your gums, and strengthen your smile, giving your chompers the ability to fight dental issues.

Second, brush your teeth for two minutes every morning when you wake up and every night before you go to bed. Brushing less than this can encourage the development of dental issues, like tooth decay and gum disease. Brushing more than this can impair and harm your teeth and gums. So, it’s best to brush for two minutes twice each day. If you need help doing so, feel free to set a timer.

Third, take care of your toothbrush. If you do so, your toothbrush will take care of you. To help you care for your brush, our dentists recommend rinsing it with water after you are done brushing. Next, place it upright in an area where it can dry. It’s also encouraged to replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months or when the bristles are frayed and no longer effective.
